Cabinets & Side Tables

Cabinets
A piece of furniture on which you can display a group of objects or a collection of some kind makes an excellent focal point within a room, particularly if there is no fireplace or architectural feature. If your budget will allow, have a cabinet custom-made for the space. The advantage is not only that it will fit perfectly, but you can specify features such as integrated lighting. If you are planning to display a group of objects here, measure their height and width and work out the distance needed between shelves to house these specific items.
Sidetables
Sidetables are more akin to tabletops than cabinets. However, think about what the eye will see from a sitting position: sidetables are higher than tables so it is the profile of different forms that is important. Try to avoid having objects of the same scale or texture here- You need to play small against large, fat against thin, matte against gloss, smooth against rough, to create stimulating effect. finally, pay attention to the wall space behind: what you hang above the sidetable is as much as a part of the composition as the objects upon it.
